of fellowship with the undevout

"He who is alone with his sins is utterly alone. It may be that Christians, not withstanding corporate worship, common prayer, and all their fellowship in service, may still be left to their loneliness. The final breakthrough to fellowship does not occur because, though they have fellowship with one another as believers and as devout people, they do not fellowship as the undevout, as sinners. The pious fellowship permits no one to be a sinner. So everyone must conceal his sin from himself and from their fellowship. We dare not be sinners. Many Christians are unthinkably horrified when a real sinner is suddenly discovered among the righteous. So we remain alone with our sin, living in lies and hypocrisy. The fact is that we are sinners!"

- Dietrich Bonhoeffer

that's ok man, i get that allot. ;)

if there are sins to be confessed, i dont think they need to be paraded on a blog. that's what small group meetings are for ha.

well to start, i put up this post 'cos i thought it made a pretty good reminder of our humble status as sinners in God's eyes. Certainly wasn't planning to "parade my sins" (i think i'm a pretty private person u know...) on my blog but since Caleb asked, I felt compelled to reply with at least something =)

but having said that...yeah, i think confessing our sins is something easily put forward, but difficult in practice. I'm sure it is a liberating process, and I do desire that freedom, but I'm still not sure I'm prepared to be an open book for all to peruse through.

well actually i was more of responding to caleb heh.

yeah its a good post on a very important topic, i feel christians are too mired in looking good in church when we should all realise we're all sinners and while we shouldnt tolerate sin, we should not feel like we need to display unneccesary holiness either. cuz that sort of 'competition' leads to spiritual pride which to me, is more dangerous than any outburst of cussing.

It's okay I give the sign quite often too:/ I think mike's the youth pastor in yen's church. Yen btw, used to be in our church before he left to aussie.

i think to start off we shud at least confess to god first,in detail, n not some general prayer?

*ahem* now i know that my presence has not been missed ='( *tear*

well i was responding to what pb said about christian putting on a 'mask' in church n all that

yea mike is my youth pastor
what he meant was that we should live a Godly life out of conviction(because of what Jesus did for us) n not out on convenience(acting 'holy' in church n sinning all the way when we're alone just because nobody is around to see)
